What does "link in bio" mean?
Instagram captions do not turn URLs into clickable links. For years, the only place a regular Instagram account could put a working link was the single website field in its profile. So when a post promoted a product, blog article, or sign-up page, the caption ended with "link in bio," asking followers to tap the profile and click from there.
The phrase spread with Instagram's growth in the mid-2010s and became so common that an entire category of "link in bio" tools grew around it: landing pages that hold many links behind the single URL a profile allows. TikTok, which also limits clickable links in captions, adopted the same habit.
Link in bio on different platforms
